The Hippy Nuts: Songs/Videos

drive away

(KATHENA BRYANT)
Kathena Bryant BMI & Tim Champion BMI
This is an early song from producer Tim Champion and singer/harmonica player Kathena Bryant. Released on Kathena Bryant's album HIGHWAY, this was BEFORE they became THE HIPPY NUTS. Luckily, KATE PIERSON
dropped by to sing on this one.

Tim was strumming the chords and Kathena sang out..""Drive Away, Drive away." Then, they had to build a story around that.
Why the heck is she saying that?
They remembered some Tennessee Williams stories and plays and that set the mood for them. It's about a person stuck in her hometown and not knowing exactly where to go or how to.
She says, "I know the place I come from is not the place I'm going."
Some say stay where you belong
Others say hurry up before it's gone
My shadow's getting longer long
I used to feel you like the sun
The light of one more summer's passed
and I feel the darkness that's to come

Drive Away

I know the place I come from is not the place I'm going
I could go straight instead of turning around here and find out what I need to be knowing.
18 wheelers go hurling past the green light at the filling station
It's easy to go as fast as them when you know your destination

Drive Away

Yesterday's keep stacking up
I don't even want to get out of bed You keep hollering more pancakes I need someting else to feed my head.

If I don't go now I may never get away The frost will set in, my car will get stuck in the mud and my phonebill's due next Wednesday.
Every part of this town I know so well That empty street leads to that vacant motel. I'm just living here on borrowed time. There's a world out there and I want to make it mine.
